obama's pick to be cia director, testifies at his senate confirmation hearing. to smooth his path, the white house agreed to give lawmakers a secret memo that lays out the rules for using drones. jon karl joins us with some of that. this is something the white house resisted for some time. >> reporter: as of yesterday afternoon, the white house actually refused to even acknowledge that this memo existed. but late last night, the president made the call to release the memo on a classified basis to the intelligence committee. this is after one prominent democratic senator threatened or suggested he would filibuster brennan's nomination if they didn't get the documents. this is an indication that at today's hearing, you'll hear some tough questioning about the drone campaign. and i think the thorough conversation about the secretive but essential component of the president's war on terror. >> it's coming at a time when yesterday the iranians released a video they say came from a u.s. drone that they captured. this may be a major intelligence coup for the iranians. >> reporter: it may
